Rebalancing Growth and Poverty Theme: Message from Process Moderator

Theme Members,

Your moderators and I have talked through the nature of traffic moving on the
Growth and Poverty
Theme. Whilst DFID and the Oversight Group are delighted with the level of
interest and the
continued valuable contributions, we feel that some of the threads of
discussion might best be
followed within other more appropriate themes.

We are therefore taking the liberty to copy across to those themes some
selected contributions
from this group, specifically those that contribute to the debate on
agricultural/rural extension,
which is now being transferred to Science and Technology, and the debate on
Co-operatives and
Farmer Organizations which will be transferred to Economic Growth. Your
current theme
moderator will include key issues on these topics on their next summary and
hand the baton on
to the other moderators who will follow through - be assured that your ideas
will not be lost in this
transition. We hope that the copying of files will be completed today.

This action will enable the Growth and Poverty Theme to focus on the broad
issues relating to the
contribution of agriculture to growth and poverty reduction, the changing
context of agriculture,
and the general implications for development strategies, programmes and
resource allocation.
This theme will continue to address both the realities on the ground as well as
the macro picture.
We do acknowledge that all factors link together however we feel on balance
that this will help
the overall debate.

Some members of this theme may need to register with an additional group - we
do hope that
you feel able to do this and that you are willing to carry forward your
enthusiastic debate within a
new theme.

Thanks and kind regards

Felicity Proctor
