Re: urban and peri-urban agriculture

> Dear Colleagues,
Ms Daina Lee-Smith made an important contribution on peri-urban
agriculture. I would be interested to know if there are any success
stories of urban livestock production. To my knowledge and experience in
India, cattle and buffaloes owned by not necessarily poor people but
people with poltical connections, roam around cities once milk has been
drawn from them. These make cities more prone to accidents, polluted
leading to more harm than good.May be there are some successful cases
elsewhere where livestock have been managed with less impact on
environment and economic empowerment of poor.Peri-urban livestock
production may be accpted but i wonder if urban livestock production is
acceptable?
