Dick Tinsley has spoken about the tragedy of the commons and asks what can be done about it. Land reform is one possibility. Alternative mechanisms for access, such as the at one time much touted community land company wherein members held 'shares' in the land and could depasture stock according to their 'share' or could rent out their share or sell it. Alternatively schemes have been tried wherein grazing management is used of varying systems to enhance productivity. Areas where DfID could make some inroads if this has not or is not already being done? Thanks James Biscoe 8/5/04 1000hrs
