Colin Poulton is Research Fellow in the Department of Agricultural Sciences, Imperial College London, Wye campus. His research addresses various aspects of the question: “how can pro-poor economic growth in rural Africa best be stimulated?” Specific interests include: the requirements for, and livelihood impacts of, sustainable intensification of smallholder agriculture; the organisation and performance of African cotton systems, and the challenge of providing seasonal finance to agricultural households. He is currently working in Kenya, Tanzania, Zimbabwe and South Africa, with additional responsibilities for ongoing work in Zambia and Mozambique. He was one of the authors of the recently launched “Reaching the Poor – A Call to Action: Investment in Smallholder Agriculture in Sub-Saharan Africa”, produced by FARM-Africa, Harvest Help and Imperial College London.
